The Peoria Municipal Band had hoped to perform a reduced concert schedule in late July or August this summer but they have canceled those plans.  Research surrounding musicians and Covid19 is quickly advancing but not enough is known at this point in time to rehearse and perform with absolute safety.  The band will turn its attention to the summer of 2021 in the hopes of a “return to normal”.  In the meantime, the band hopes that everyone will support the arts organizations in their communities to the best of their ability as we persevere through the challenges caused by the pandemic.

Peoria Municipal Band Summer 2020

The 83rd season of the Peoria Municipal Band will not begin as planned June 3^rd.  COVID-19 has impacted the lives of individuals around the globe and public safety is primary in everyone’s mind as we all work to adhere to local, state and national guidelines and stay safe.

An abbreviated season beginning Wednesday, July 22^nd and ending August 16^th is tentatively planned.  The Peoria Municipal Band and the Municipal Band Commission will continue to monitor and adhere to the guidelines set forth in Restore Illinois and the Peoria Plan before committing to any performance schedule.

The band plays an important role in the social and musical life of Central Illinois and we are disappointed that we cannot share our music as we have planned.  Updates concerning the abbreviated season will be released when possible.  Thank you for your support of the Peoria Municipal Band.

It has been a while since the band was challenged by the weather. Often at 7:00 p.m. (concert time) the rain has stopped and things cool off. That was the story of June 30th until we approached the second half of the concert. We shortened things up and headed for safety as this wall cloud passed over.

We are hopeful things will be better for the big Peoria Park District Fireworks Show at Glen Oak Park on Wednesday, July 3rd. Activities begin at 4:00 p.m. with the band scheduled to go on around 8:00 p.m. Fireworks follow!

The Peoria Municipal Band, under the direction of Dr. David Vroman, will begin their 82^nd season of summer concerts on Sunday, June 2^nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Glen Oak Park Amphitheater in Peoria, Illinois and follow up in the Peoria Warehouse District on Wednesday, June 5^th.  The 2019 Peoria Municipal Band Summer Season consists of 24 concert performances by a band of 50 musicians.  All concerts are free of charge and parking is adjacent to the performing venues.

On Sunday, June 2^nd, the Peoria Fire Department Color Guard and the featured vocalist is Jordan Avellino, a Bradley University vocal performance major from Downingtown, PA.

Sunday evening concerts in Glen Oak Park this summer will be June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 July 7, 14, 21, 28 August 4 and 11.  The famed Glen Oak Park Fireworks Concert put on by the Peoria Park District will be Wednesday, July 3^rd.

Wednesday evening performances are presented at the corner of Water and State Street at 7:00 p.m. These performances will be June 5, 12, 19, 26, July 10, 17, 24, 31 August 7.

Two special Friday evening performances will be given this season.  The first is at St. Philomena’s Church and School on Friday June 28^th at 7:00 p.m.  Then on Friday July 26^th the band will perform at the United Presbyterian Church at 2400 Northmoor Road.

The Peoria Municipal Band was formed in 1937 through the efforts of Local 26 of the American Federation of Musicians and interested citizens.  Prior to 1937 the band was a professional municipal band complete with management and “Soloists of National Reputation”.  Current band members come from all walks of life; many are currently music teachers in the local schools.  They are selected by audition and then commit to a full season of rehearsals and performance.  Hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed their music since 1937.  Today, with the support of the city, the band continues the long-standing tradition of excellence in music.
